Celebrating Independence Day

Location: Earlton, NY (High 83, Low 58)

Since arriving here in Earlton last Tuesday, we have pretty much been taking it easy. We had pretty empty cupboards after a month of doing very little cooking or eating at our own place. So we did get out for a little shopping to replenish our grocery stores.

We also had nice enough weather that I could take some pictures of the campground with some nice blue sky in them. So far we are really enjoying this campground. We were a little apprehensive about our water conserving abilities, as this is our first time without a sewer hookup. It has gone ok though. We’ve been more conscious of our water use, and with only two days left until pumpout, we should be fine.

It’s been such a rainy summer so far, and we had been pleased to see that the weather was supposed to cooperate for celebrating the 4th. Then we woke up yesterday to hear…RAIN. Again. Yuck.

I spent the morning watching the radar, and by the time we were supposed to leave we could see the hint of the end of the rainy area on the map’s horizon. Just to be on the safe side though, we packed all of our rain gear on top of the stuff we had already planned to bring and drove over to pick up the kids for the ride to Albany. (Happily the radar was correct and by the time we arrived in Albany the rains had ended and the sky would later clear.)

Harry and I had gone to the state capital for the celebration of the 4th a couple times back when we were still in a house and living here, but this was our first time bringing the kids.

I was excited to share the experience with them. We found a good spot under the “Egg” (so called because it is an egg shaped conference center).
